We have a Happy Assembly at 2:30 tomorrow at the school. Please send your child in a sports jersey of some kind. I will be away at a Technology Conference tomorrow. A guest teacher will take my place. Have a great weekend.
We had a wonderful day meeting our Global Read Aloud buddies through Skype. Our friends who live in Clinton, Oklahoma were just as excited to meet us! The Global Read Aloud project has grade 3 students all around the world reading the same book - "Marty Mcquire". We decided to add another layer of engagement by meeting them through Skype as a class, and then blogging and commenting about each other's thoughts on the book through Kidblog. Every two weeks, students will meet through Facetime on the iPads and will have a conversation about the story or other books that they like.
Today our students logged onto their Kidblog.org accounts and read their partners blog. Tomorrow they will be writing their own. Students also were given their first SpellingCity.com words to practice for next Monday's quiz. They have their logins and passwords in their agenda. Please have them practice their words at home either traditionally or using the Spelling City site. Feel free to log in and see these two wonderful sites. Read 20 - 30 minutes.
Today we worked with patterns in math and we also had library. Friday is the last day to get your Scholastic Book orders in to me. Please review the sight words with your child at home and read with them for 20 minutes.
Students are collecting "Toonies for Terry" as a fundraiser. It would be appreciated if you are able to send a toonie to school with your child. Picture day is on Monday. Please make sure that your child is reading each night and working on their sight words. Book orders from Scholastic are due September 20th.
Students have earned tickets the last two weeks for good behaviour. They were given the opportunity to shop for toys in the classroom. It was a fun day! Thanks to all of the parents who came out to the BBQ last night. It was great to meet you!
