Students are working with words through their Spelling City accounts. Each child's assignments are tailored for his or her needs. Students received their third week of word activities today and were given time in class to complete most of the activities. Please allow time for you child to complete all the word games by Sunday. We had singing practice today. A practice firedrill will happen on Wednesday.
Today we started our Global Read Aloud project. The students are reading Marty McQuire and tomorrow we will start our blogs. Tomorrow is library. Please make sure that your child is reading on Raz-kids tonight. Students may also have some Spelling City to do at home tonight.
Just a reminder that book reports and reading logs were due today. If your child hasn't submitted these yet, please send them to school tomorrow. Thanks!
Students were given their new list of words today from Spelling City.com. Please make sure that your child finished last week's words as there were several students who came today with it incomplete. Library is on Wednesday. Please have your child read from Raz-Kids tonight. Thank you!
We have a Happy Assembly at 2:30 tomorrow at the school. Please send your child in a sports jersey of some kind. I will be away at a Technology Conference tomorrow. A guest teacher will take my place. Have a great weekend.
We had a wonderful day meeting our Global Read Aloud buddies through Skype. Our friends who live in Clinton, Oklahoma were just as excited to meet us! The Global Read Aloud project has grade 3 students all around the world reading the same book - "Marty Mcquire". We decided to add another layer of engagement by meeting them through Skype as a class, and then blogging and commenting about each other's thoughts on the book through Kidblog. Every two weeks, students will meet through Facetime on the iPads and will have a conversation about the story or other books that they like.
Today our students logged onto their Kidblog.org accounts and read their partners blog. Tomorrow they will be writing their own. Students also were given their first SpellingCity.com words to practice for next Monday's quiz. They have their logins and passwords in their agenda. Please have them practice their words at home either traditionally or using the Spelling City site. Feel free to log in and see these two wonderful sites. Read 20 - 30 minutes.
Today we worked with patterns in math and we also had library. Friday is the last day to get your Scholastic Book orders in to me. Please review the sight words with your child at home and read with them for 20 minutes.
Students are collecting "Toonies for Terry" as a fundraiser. It would be appreciated if you are able to send a toonie to school with your child. Picture day is on Monday. Please make sure that your child is reading each night and working on their sight words. Book orders from Scholastic are due September 20th.
